Smith leads Canada to 9-1 win over Japan at Winter Universiade

According to the 2013 Winter Universiade website, University of Calgary Dinos' forward Jenna Smith of Swift Current, Saskatchewan registered four assists on Monday as Canada defeated Japan 9-1 in women's hockey action at the 2013 Winter Universiade in Trentino, Italy.

Smith assisted on team Canada's opening goal in the first period by Amanda Parkins, and then notched a second assist on a goal by Parkins in the second period as well. In the third period, Smith then recorded assists on two goals by Alexa Normore.

With the victory, Canada improves to 5-0 after outscoring their opponents 57-2 in the round robin. Canada also beat the United States 9-1 on Sunday.

Team Canada will now play in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

In men's hockey action, Team Canada will play Slovakia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday after losing 4-2 to Kazakhstan on Sunday. The Canadians dropped to 2-1 in the Group C standings and had to settle for second place.
