Smith Affleck Garner drama: Smith is the latest to talk about Ben and Jen

Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck are no longer friends. Is Jennifer Garner to blame? Kevin Smith worked with Ben Affleck on several movies, but they have not worked together since "Jersey Girl" in 2004. Since then, their relationship ended, and Smith put the blame fully on Affleck's marriage to Jennifer Garner in a new interview he did right before Comic Con last week. However, the actor now admits he was only joking. Entertainment Tonight Online shared all that Kevin Smith said about his friendship with Ben on July 29.

Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck were longtime friends. The duo started their work together with "Mallrats" in 1995. Since then Affleck has changed a lot. Any fan of the actor can admit that actor is not the same person he was almost 20 years. He married, became a dad, and he is now one of the biggest names in Hollywood. He will be seen as Batman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" in 2016. That is where Kevin's comments came from. Someone asked the director if Ben was in town for Comic Con. Smith said the following in response to the question:

"I don't know, because we're not f**king tight. I have not been [close with him] in decades. That's old Ben. He's got a wife [Jennifer Garner] that don't care for me at all. And plus, honestly, he probably don't care for me at all anymore. He's a triple-A-list movie star and s**t like that. If he's Jimmy Carter, I'm Billy Carter, to put it in '70s terms. And I'm not even related and s**t."

Smith's reply to the question was a bit shocking. He has also worked with Jennifer Garner in the last decade. They worked together on "Catch and Release" in 2006. The director admitted that Jennifer found his sense of humor offensive during a recent stand-up performance. He would pick on Ben in a joking manner, and Jennifer would take his good-natured ribbing as serious. She even threatened to beat him up.

It was after she threatened to do that to him that the friendship halted. He spoke to Ben about the comment, but the duo has since drifted apart. Smith did reveal he was joking during the interview, but one does have to wonder about Ben and Jennifer's outside friendships. This is not the first time someone has spoken out recently about the pair. Mark Ruffalo was out promoting "The Normal Heart" earlier this summer, and he revealed that he was not friends with Jennifer Garner anymore. They starred together in "13 Going On 30" in 2004.

However, he did not blame Garner for the end of their friendship. He blamed Ben Affleck for their friendship ending after they worked together. He said the following in an interview for "Watch What Happens Live" in June:

"We had a great time together, and I think we would (have kept in touch), but then Ben [Affleck] came on the scene and that was the end of that."

Andy Cohen did try to get Ruffalo to say more, but the actor kept his mouth shut after that comment. The host did make a joke that Ben does not allow Jennifer to have male friends, but he was only joking. One does have to wonder if that is the case though. People do change over time, and it is obvious Ben Affleck has changed a lot over the last 20 years. Have Ben and Jennifer closed ranks and focused on their marriage? Alternatively, is it just a case of time and people changing? Do you have the same friends you had 20 years ago?
