Whether embodied in the works of the Global Smile Foundation (GSF) whose goal it is to alleviate the suffering of underserved patients born with facial congenital deformities with special emphasis on cleft lips and palates.
Often, these facial defects become a target of village scorn. Nor does such venue often have an opportunity at teaching hospitals to rectify the dilemma. Until the Global Smile Foundation programs.
The Global Smile Foundation offers comprehensive cosmetic repair, with each skilled team providing a multi-disciplinary approach for cleft palate solutions and other facial malignment for children and adults. Each team consists of senior cleft surgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists, pediatricians, nursing staff, craniofacial and pediatric dentists, as well as speech therapists, and even psychosocial experts to alleivate societal scorn. These specialty trained medical volunteers are from renowned institutions, such as Harvard-affiliated hospitals, Johns Hopkins, Tufts University Medical Center, Sloan Kettering, UCLA and several other acclaimed medical schools.
Formed in 2008 as a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation, the founding members of the Global Smile Foundation are a group of dedicated volunteers and medical professionals who have been actively involved with global outreach programs for more than two decades in Latin America, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent.
The Global Smile Foundation also works to expand the role of nutritional & preventative programs to decrease the incidence of cleft deformities such as folic supplementation during pregnancy, as well as public awareness campaigns in underserved areas.
