We have all experienced the situation of being in a restaurant or a movie theater and you here that annoying beep or buzz of a smartphone. You look around for the culprit and then go over to them and tell them to shut their off. Situations such as that usually end bringing unwanted attention. The Japanese company Scentee has come up with an app that could make both sides happy in that situation with pleasant aromas instead of those beeps and buzzes.
“It’s the first scent accessory for smartphones, and it plugs right here on the headphone port. … Now, let’s take a look at the app here. As you can see, there’s three different buttons with the central one that’s actually going to deliver the scent,” said Matt Smith a reporter for the news blog Engadget.
Using the app along with the scent dispenser, that plugs into the headphone jack, that same smartphone could simply send the scent of popcorn, coffee, bacon or any of the other scents Scentee offers into the air. Now, when that person at the restaurant or theater can leave their smartphone on and have it bother the other patrons since their smartphone is emanating an aroma that is more appropriate for the setting.
The app also allows you to use the scents as an alarm on your smartphone. You can set it to go off every 30, 60 or 90 minutes and pick one of several colored LED lights that will flash on your smartphone in time with the release of the scent. Say you have an wedding anniversary coming up and need a reminder with Scentee you could set the alarm on your smartphone to remind you by release the scent of roses, jasmine or strawberries. The aroma would be a good reminder that you need to make plans for that special day.
Scentee will be available at Amazon both in the United States and Japan starting on November 15. It will cost 35 dollars for the starter kit (app and dispenser with one scent chip) with each additional scent chip will cost 5 dollars. The scent chips will last for approximately 100 burst. The app will work on both android and Apple devices.
