"Smash" is currently airing on Channel 12 in Tempe. On Thursday, March 21, Spoiler TV shared the photos released for "Smash" episode 2.08 titled "The Bells and Whistles." On the episode teased in these new photos, Ivy is back as Marilyn, and she decides to bring Sam back to New York City. This will make things difficult for Tom. Meanwhile, Jimmy will find himself going up against Derek over their show. On the last episode, Derek made it clear to Jimmy that he needed to stay away from Karen romantically.
As for Jimmy and Karen, Josh Safran spoke about the potential couple in a new interview with TV Line. The show runner revealed the following about the pair:
"I know that some people have said that they find Jimmy sort of unlikable. Our goal was to create a complicated character that pushes everybody away that he cares about, and acts out, and is a little bit of sort of loud and reactionary. The journey for him this season is coming to grips with who he is and trying to let people in, much like Billy Bigelow [in the musical Carousel] — and hopefully people who stayed with the show will see Jimmy learn his lessons and crack open."
