As the saying goes, ‘There’s an app for that.’ Smartphones can be useful in organizing your life, playing the latest game and keeping up with family and friends. But did you know that you can find an app to keep your heart health in check? There are smartphone apps popping up all over for your iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and other smartphones that will give you the incentive needed to make sure you are heart healthy.
Checking your blood pressure can now be done anywhere through your iPhone by hooking it up to a cuff to start the process. Once it is done taking the blood pressure reading, it is saved and sent to an online database. This is a great way to keep track of your blood pressure regularly and even send the readings to your physician. There are also blood pressure logs for other smartphones that can save your readings. This may be a better alternative to take to your doctor’s office instead of writing it down in a paper log.
Now you don’t have to worry about measuring your own pulse because your phone is now smart enough to do that for you. An app called Azumio uses your phone’s camera to measure your heart rate. After placing your index finger over the lens, your rate will suddenly show up on the screen. This is a way to target your heart rate during exercise or whatever you are doing. Other apps such as Fitbit measures every step you take throughout your day to keep you fit and on the road to good health.
Of course, most doctors will recommend that their patients eat a healthy diet and to get plenty of exercise. A good way to keep track of your eating habits and the calories you consume is to download an app such as My Fitness Pal. It will record every calorie that is taken in and also the calories going out as you exercise. It will even keep track of your sodium intake and water consumption. It’s like having your own personal fitness trainer right in your hand.
AliveCor has developed an electrocardiogram device that hooks onto your iPhone just like a case that will record your heart rate and rhythm. Although this is not available just yet, this is just another device to aid in taking your heart health seriously and may even help in preventing a heart attack.
Check out all of these amazing devices to help keep your heart in good health. Remember that these are just aids to coincide with regular checkups with your doctor.
