Small Town Gossip gives San Diego something to talk about

Steven Hall, who is better known as Small Town Gossip, knows a thing or two about traveling and touring. This North Carolina native moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of his dream of performing and writing music and has spent the last year doing not one but two coast to coast tours from north to south. These tours have helped to build a strong fan base throughout the country for Small Town Gossip and rightly so. The one man band is an acoustic mix of sweet southern boy and witty lyrical fun. At Lestat’s on Friday February 7, Steven preformed for his second time in San Diego to an even larger audience than the first; word travels fast when you’re dealing with gossip. The opening song was a cover of “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)” by Wyclef Jean that was one of the best around with a slow beat that made the popular rap hit sound like a sweet southern love song, almost as if Nelly had revised it. After being subdued by the opening performance, Steven’s upbeat personality was a welcome stage presence. He began the set befriending the audience and joking as he transitioned from song to song playing originals off of his two albums already out and a sneak peek at his new album being released in the spring. The easiest thing to recall about this show was that as the set progressed each song seemed even better than the last, ensuring that choosing a favorite would be impossible. The only advice to be given is to be sure to catch lucky performance number three in San Diego expected sometime in the spring.
