According to ABC 10 News, a San Diego, Calif., man is hoping to warn other dog owners about the danger lurking at the Grape Street Dog Park in South Park after his small dog was killed last weekend.
On Saturday evening, near dusk, Marco Jimenez's 10-year-old Shih Tzu, "Frankie Bones," was attacked by a coyote who had circled around behind him and boldly attacked without warning. Jimenez described the frightening attack to 10 News:
Basically, the coyote grabbed his neck really quickly and I think at that first impact point he twisted and severed the spinal cord or something,"
Though Jimenez was able to frighten the coyote into releasing the small dog, the damage was already done and Frankie had to be humanely euthanized at a nearby emergency veterinarian.
The dog park where the attack took place is popular and Jimenez is hoping that other guardians of small dogs will be made aware of the potential danger and not suffer the same devastating loss that he is having to endure.
