In a tweet sent last week, Atmosphere's Slug announced he will perform a Prince song from the Purple Rain soundtrack at the American Heart Association's third annual Benefit 2 Celebrate Life. Although he took suggestions for his performance, it has not been announced which song or songs Slug will perform.

The third annual benefit, hosted by Bobby Z, returns to the stage at First Avenue in Minneapolis tomorrow night at 8 p.m. Bobby Z is the former drummer for Prince & the Revolution. His organization My Purple Heart have partnered with the American Heart Association to raise funds and awareness to combat heart disease since Bobby's near-fatal heart attack four years ago.

Slug's benefit performance comes on the heels of a performance on Conan and an announcement of European dates for Atmosphere's "North of Hell" tour.

The benefit features performances of songs from the Purple Rain soundtrack by an eclectic group of Minneapolis musicians. Spanning three decades of talent, other performers include Purple Rain actress Apollonia Kotero, The Revolution's keyboardist Dr. Fink, sax player Eric Leeds, singer "St. Paul" Peterson, GRAMMY-winning ensemble Sounds of Blackness. and former American Idol runner up Paris Bennett.

Tickets to the show are on sale through First Avenue.
