The Saint Louis University men's basketball team rose to its best national ranking in 50 years, when it was announced on Monday that the Billikens had moved up to No. 13 in the Associated Press' Top 25 men's hoop poll.

SLU, which had been ranked No. 19 for two weeks straight, vaulted six spots higher in this week's rankings after raising its overall season record to 20-2, with a pair of victories over Richmond and George Mason last week.

The No. 13 ranking is the highest for the SLU program since the Billikens were ranked No. 9 in the country during the 1964-1965 season.

This week will mark the fourth straight week SLU is ranked in the Top 25, after ending last season ranked No. 13, but not appearing in this season's poll until January.

SLU is off to its best start over through 22 games, with a 20-2 mark, and also owns the best record in the Atlantic 10 Conference at 7-0.

This week, the Billikens will play two tough games on the road -- at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday and at La Salle on Saturday.

The game at La Salle, which is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip, will be televised live by ESPN2.

SLU's next home game, a February 15 showdown with second-place VCU, will also be shown live to a national TV audience on ESPN2.
