The newest Vegas Strip casino resort, SLS Las Vegas, will apparently open a week earlier than originally announced. SLS is now slated to open the doors on Saturday, August 23, one week before the previously announced opening slated for Labor Day weekend.

The SLS is the result of extensive renovations and rebranding of the iconic Sahara resort on the north end of the Strip. The new resort actually began accepting reservations and unveiled the property's website in April earlier this year. The exterior 10,000-square-foot and four-sided marquee will continuously display a countdown of the number of days remaining until the opening.

Renovation work on the new resort, owned by SBE Entertainment, began in February 2013 at the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd. and Sahara Avenue. The owners have claimed that the property will generate more than 3000 jobs and add over $400 million to the local economy.

The SLS features 1600 guest rooms ( including 250 suites) along with an array of shopping, nightlife, and dining options. They'll offer more than 30,000 sq. ft. of convention space and a 60,000 sq.ft. casino with more than 800 slot machines, a race and sports book, and 70 table games.

SLS Las Vegas highlights :

In-room amenities - Luxury showers, terry bath robes, 55-inch HD TV, Simmons mattresses, choice of 3 towers (World, Lux, and Story towers), and 3 room - view options (City, Mountain, or Pool views).

Up-scale dining - Bazaar Meat by Jose Andres, Japanese cuisine at Katsuya by Starck, Mediterranean cuisine at Cleo

Casual dining - Ku Noodle, Umami Burger Beer Garden & Sports Book, 800 Degrees Neopolitan Pizza, the 24/7 Griddle Cafe, the SLS Buffet, and The Perq coffee shop.

Spa services - Ciel Spa

Retail shopping - Seven specialty boutique shops by Fred Segal

Salon services - FrankAndLeo Salon hair stylists

Fitness Center

Pools (2) - Beach LIFE and Foxtail Pool Club

Nightlife - Sayers Club, the Premier Nightlife Venue, Poolside Lounge, and Umami Beer Garden

According to their website, the least expensive available rooms for opening night (Aug. 23) are $239 for a standard World Tower King room. That rate does not include resort fees and taxes .

The new SLS has already trumped one aspect of opening a new property on the Strip in Vegas. They're actually opening the doors ahead of originally announced dates. That makes some kind of positive statement about planning and/or management intent, because it simply doesn't happen very often in Las Vegas. Slick marketing, perhaps...but refreshing somehow.
