The St. Louis Park soccer season enters its final full week (though the girls conclude their season next Monday in Buffalo) and both teams start the week with a tough test against the Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights.
Up first is the boys game. The Orioles are on a five game unbeaten streak after tying the Minneapolis South Tigers 2-2 on September 26, They face, perhaps their toughest test of the regular season as they face a red hot Red Knight team that has won six consecutive games, all by a shut out. In their six game run, BSM has outscored their opponents 21-0 after losing to the top ranked team in Class AA Minneapolis Southwest 5-3 on September 11. St. Louis Park has got to play solid defense and Eric Hendricks needs to a have a great game in goal to stop the Red Knights streak.
Following the boys, the girls will take the field against the defending Class A champion Red Knights. The Orioles are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars and have had an up and down season with a record of 6-5-1. BSM, with an identical record as their male counterparts of 9-3-1 is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Hopkins Royals on September 28. All three of the Red Knights losses this season have been to Lake Conference teams, Minnetonka and Edina were the other two. Despite the loss, BSM is still the top rated team in Class A and the Orioles could have a tough time against a potent Red Knight offense anchored by Alexa Tataryn.
On Thursday, the Orioles will wrap up the home portion of their regular season against the Columbia Heights Hylanders. It will also be Senior Night as the senior players will be honored at both games.
The soccer season is winding down with Section 6AA tournament play beginning October 10.
