St. Louis Park was the site Thursday night for the quarterfinals of the Section 6AA boys soccer tournament John Kinney and Artis Ciriskis scored two goals apiece to lead the Orioles to a 6-0 win over the Cooper Hawks.
Kinney got the Orioles on the board, going down the center slot, through a few Hawk defenders and found an opening in the net. They went up by two as Luke Von Eschen hit a 15 yard drive from the right side. The goal came after Malik Grays shot hit the left post. Von Eschen picked up the assist on St. Louis park's third goal, centering the ball to Ciriskis and he rounded out the first half scoring.
The Orioles boosted their lead to four in the second half when Victor Alonso Ruiz Shimada was fouled in the penalty area and he was awarded a penalty kick. He made the most of the opportunity and scored. Kinney scored his second goal in an unusual way. It looked like he was going to pass the ball but it entered the net's right corner. Ciriskis concluded the scoring with 2:20 remaining.
St. Louis Park advances to the semifinals on Saturday, October 12 as the host the Wayzata Trojans at 1 PM. It will be a rematch of last year's semifinal game that the Orioles won in double overtime. The second semifinal game will be a Minneapolis City Conference battle between South and Southwest. the game will be played at 1 PM at Washburn.
In the Section 6AA girls quarterfinals, Emily Hinz's goal with eight minutes left in regulation led St. Louis Park to a 1-0 win over Minneapolis Southwest. They will play at Minnetonka on Saturday, also a 1 PM start. Hopkins will head for Wayzata in the second semifinal game.
