Thursday night will be a busy night for st. Louis park athletics as the boys and girls soccer teams host the Roseville Raiders and the football team opens their season against the Bloomington Jefferson jaguars at Bloomington Stadium.
It also marks the inaugural football match up in the newly formed Metro West Conference. It also begins the Orioles second season under head coach Ben Wolfe.
Last season, St. Louis Park went 0-9 in their final North Suburban Conference season. This season, the Orioles will play only four conference games. Besides Jefferson, they will face Cooper, Richfield (the only home conference game on September 12), and Bloomington Kennedy. Non conference games will be against Fridley and a couple of St. Paul City Conference schools, Como Park and Harding.
The big question for St. Louis Park this season is who will run the offense? According to their roster, they have two quarterbacks, Logan Romero and Alex Crary? With last year's starter Quin Livdal gone, the position is wide open. The Orioles do however have an experienced offensive line and Trenton stafford returning at free safety.
As for the Jaguars, after a solid 2-0 start last season before losing to Minnetonka and going 1-6 the rest of the way. the Jaguars have senior leadership and depth. Now that they are in the Metro west, they won't have to face the likes of Lakeville North, apple valley and Rosemount in the South Suburban Conference. Zachary Ubben is back at quarterback for Jefferson and Colton Myles returns at running back.
Will this be the season that Wolfe leads the Orioles to his first win? Head over to the corner of 88th St. and Queen Ave. S. and see the Orioles season opener in a classic stadium that's been around since the 1950s.
