The first game of 2014 for the St. Louis Park Orioles turned out to be a happy one for Joey Kramer as he scored the game winning goal one minute into overtime to beat the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks 3-2 Friday night at The Rec Center.
It took only 10 seconds for the Orioles to score first when Bauer Neudecker rebounded Charlie Hills shot and scored. But the lead was short lived since the Redhawks equaled the score after Sam Lundquist got a pass from Luke Erickson, sped down the ice and fired the puck past St. Louis Park goalie Conner Klaers. Andre LaRenzie gave Minnehaha Academy the lead on a goal from the left point.
After both teams failed to score in the second period, the Orioles knotted the game at two on Jacob Lukasavage's goal 1:49 into the third period. Klaers made a couple of key saves to keep the score even and send the game into the eight minute overtime period.
Just like the title of a popular game show, St. Louis Park took only a "Minute to Win It" in overtime as Kramer rebounded Charlie Hills' shot to send the Orioles fans home happy.
The Orioles improve their record to 4-6-1 and begin a seven game road trip on Saturday, January 4 against the Cooper Hawks at 3 PM at the New Hope Ice Arena. The Redhawks fell to 6-5 and also return to action on the 4th as they host the La Crescent Lancers in a 2 PM game in Minneapolis.
