Two former North Suburban Conference rivals square off Friday night as the St. Louis Park Orioles travel to Fridley for a 7 PM game against the Tigers.
When the North Suburban Conference folded at the conclusion of the 2013-14 school year, St. Louis Park became part of the newly formed Metro West Conference and Fridley, along with Spring Lake Park and Irondale moved into the Northwest Suburban Conference.
Both the Orioles and Tigers got beat last week. The Orioles played their inaugural Metro West game against the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars at Bloomington Stadium and lost 49-14. After giving up 49 unanswered points through three quarters, they would get on the scoreboard as new quarterback Logan Romero threw a 58 yard touchdown pass to Trenton Stafford and the sophomore quarterback would tally on a 12 yard run.
As for the Tigers, they traveled up Highway 169 last Friday to face the Zimmerman Thunder and lost 30-7. Fridley's lone touchdown came on an eight yard touchdown pass from Tyree Carothers to Jonathan Arzola. The Tiger defense could not contain the thunder rushing attack led by Austin May's 130 yards. Matthew Dorso added 120.
The key for St. Louis Park is to get good offensive line play and not fall behind too early.
