Slow cooker your way to delicious meals that are ready when you are

There are time when you get home from a busy, draining day and you just want to eat dinner and relax. When you know that days are going to be hectic, pull out a slow cooker before you leave. Just prep a few ingredients and when you get home, your dinner is done!

Here are some delicious meals that you can put together in a flash. Enjoy!

All DayVenison or Beef Stew

2 pounds venison or beef roast, cut into bite sized pieces

1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

2 large potatoes, diced

1 can tomato sauce

4 carrots, diced

3 tablespoons chunky peanut butter 

1 cup red table wine

2 teaspoons soy sauce

2 medium onions, chopped 

Beef broth to cover
 all ingredients

2 bay leaves

1 clove garlic, minced

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon thyme


Combine all ingredients in a crock pot.
  • Cook on LOW for 8 hours.

  • Serve with cornbread.

Chicken and Mexican Rice

4 chicken breasts

1 cup rice

1 cup salsa

2 1/2 cups chicken broth

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 tablespoon cilantro

Chili powder, to taste

  • Combine rice, salsa, broth and seasonings in crock pot.
  • Place chicken breasts on top.
  • Cook on LOW all day until rice is done.
  • You can garnish with chopped tomatoes and peppers when serving.

Beef Burgundy

2 slices bacon, chopped

2 pounds round steak, cut into 1-inch cubes

1/2 cup flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram

1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1 clove garlic, minced

1 beef bouillon cube, crushed

1 cup Burgundy wine 

1/4 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced


In large skillet, cook bacon several minutes.
  • Remove bacon and set aside.

  • Coat beef with flour and brown on all sides in bacon mixture.
  • Combine steak, bacon drippings, cooked bacon, seasonings, bouillon, and Burgundy wine in crock pot.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or until meat is tender.

  • Turn control to HIGH.
  • Add mushrooms; cook on HIGH for 15 minutes.

Asian Pork Roast

1 (3 to 4 pound) pork roast

1/4 cup soy sauce 

1/4 cup orange marmalade

1 tablespoon ketchup

2 cloves garlic, crushed


Place roast in crock pot.
  • Combine remaining ingredients.
  • Pour over roast.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours.
  • If desired, make up extra mixture of soy sauce, marmalade and ketchup as a dipping sauce.
