Sliding Hawks lose 13th of 14, remain in playoff hunt

The only bit of good news for the Hawks tonight in their 111-97 loss was that they didn't lose any ground in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot. Despite a record now of 26-34 and five straight losses (and 13 in 14 games), Atlanta would still limp into the postseason.

Despite getting blown off the floor by the Warriors (30-24) tonight, the Hawks managed to stay 3.5 games up for the last spot thanks the the Pistons losing again as well, this time to Minnesota.

Paul Millsap returned to action for the Hawks after missing the previous five games. His minutes were limited, and in 24 minutes he finished with 16 points and seven assists. No Hawks was on the floor for more than 30 minutes, as coach Mike Budenholzer sought to balance out minutes amongst his weary team once the blowout got underway.

Mike Scott had 14 points and Pero Antic had 10 points, both off the bench.

David Lee led Golden State with 18 points, while Jermaine O'Neal came off the bench to score 17 points. The Warriors shot 54% for the game, but were well over 60% for most of the game before cooling off towards the end.

The Hawks' road record fell to a deplorable 9-23, but this road trip is far from over. The Hawks head to Los Angeles to face the Clippers next - the same Clippers who just torched the Los Angeles Lakers by 48 points last night.

For what it's worth, the Hawks' record would put them in 12th place in the West. Fortunately, they are in the East and the competition has been a bit softer, in that such a horrid losing streak has not eliminated them from the postseason chase yet.
