If you missed the March 2, 2014, live streaming of the 86th annual Academy Awards show, it’s safe to say you missed on one of the best Oscars celebrations in years. While Ellen DeGeneres took a safer approach with the jokes, she brought her own style of realistic blend that gave the show a unique flair. For instance, Ellen DeGeneres ordered pizza then took up donations in order to pay the pizza delivery guy, but the best moment may have been when she took an impromptu selfie and broke Twitter. There were so many hidden gems in the night’s ceremony that it’s difficult to say which moment shined the brightest.
Apart from jokes, pizzas and selfies, the night brought some poignant moments as well. Jared Leto received one of the earliest awards and teary-eyed thanked his teen mother for her selfless devotion in rearing her sons. He brought the audience to tears when he dedicated his win for “Dallas Buyers Club” to those who lost the fight against AIDS. He stated, “And this is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love, tonight I stand here in front of the world with you and for you. Thank you so much and goodnight.”
Another incredibly poignant speech was that of Lupita Nyong'O, who won the Oscar for best supporting actress. She stated, “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from your dreams are valid. Thank you."
