President Obama is speaking from the University of Tampa regarding the economy and the new high speed rail transit system that will take commuters from Tampa to Orlando. The high speed rail is expected to bring over 20,000 jobs to Florida which has been greatly impacted by the financial recession. The rail will take approximately five years to complete.
Governor Charlie Crist met with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden this morning as they arrived at MacDill Air Force base. Charlie Crist was invited to attend the town hall meeting but declined. The Republican governor who hopes to become senator has been distancing himself from the President. President Obama did recognize several people in attendance including Alex Sink and former Tampa Buccaneers coach, Tony Dungy.
While announcing the 1.25 billion dollar grant from the Recovery plan that will create the high speed rail system, President Obama stated, “I’m excited. I’m gonna come back down here and ride it. Y’all have a date!”
