Miss New York, Mallory Hagan was crowned Miss America 2013 on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, in Las Vegas.
The 23-year-old blonde from Brooklyn, NY will get a $50,000 college scholarship and also the crown for one year.
Mallory Hagan defeated Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, who took second, and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, who finished third in the pageant.
Just before the final round, when she was asked if schools in the US should hire armed guards in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shooting, the stunning blonde answered, ‘‘I don’t think the proper way to fight violence is with violence.
"I think the proper way is to educate people on guns and the ways we can use them properly. We can lock them up, we can have gun safety classes, we can have a longer waiting period.’’
The 92nd Miss America pageant was held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Hagan will spend her title reign and travel across the nation to speak and raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.
