The Mid-Atlantic blizzard has finally passed but not before dumping over two feet of snow on the Washington D.C. and other metropolitan areas. 18 inches of snow were recorded at Reagan National Airport and 32 inches were recorded at Dulles Airport. The snow was bad enough to earn the nickname "Snowmageddon" from President Obama. The record snowfall for Washington D.C. was recorded by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson in 1772. They both wrote in their diaries that three feet of snow fell that year in the capitol.
Now that the blizzard is gone the area is beginning to dig itself out from under the blanket of snow. While city employees get to work others can be seen enjoying the snow in the photos below. Some are simply marveling at the huge piles of snow while others are engaging in activities like cross-country skiing along the Capitol sidewalks.
