A large protest was today held in Dhalie, southern Yemen where secessionist sentiment runs high. The demonstration was called to highlight public demands for a referendum on southern independence.
Southerners are demanding their grievances be heard at tomorrow’s London Conference on Yemen, a two hour meeting to coordinate donor strategy. Chatham House said, “Rising concern about the country's future has prompted the British government to host an urgent international summit on radicalisation there.”
Witnesses in Yemen report that southern leaders speaking at the rally also accused Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh of a secret alliance with al Qaeda, a common charge among Yemenis. While President Saleh is widely recognized as lax in dealing with the threat from al Qaeda, Yemeni oppositionists say the relationship goes much deeper.
Southerners are also concerned that donors will turn a blind eye to Yemen’s extensive human and civil rights abuses.
The southern protest movement is coalition among loosely aligned groups with a common populist agenda: independence for the territory of the former People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen.
The movement began in 2007 as a call for equal rights and an end to the economic and political marginalization of the south. Human Rights Watch described the government’s response to the peaceful protests as including “unlawful killings, arbitrary detentions, beatings, crackdowns on freedom of assembly and speech, arrests of journalists, and others.”
These tactics along with the failure to authentically address the root causes of widespread anger only increased bitterness and alienation among southerners, the rights group noted.

Please tell me honestly are you obliged to live with your brother in the same house? if he is always and intentionally misbehave, looting your resources, wasting your reserves irrationally, bullying you and your family, eating the best food and throw the leftover to you, behaves as if he is a lord and you are a slave, beats your children brutally and if any one of them complaints he puts him in a solitary, hanged upside down with no food or drink and no visit. In front of people he is continuously misleading and he says this is my beloved brother, we must live together for ever and if he just think to move to another house I will kill him, because there is no force in this universe can separate us and no choice for him either unity or death !! Do you accept this situation? I dont think so, and you will never accept that for any one else. This is simply the story of the kind people in south Yemen. For all southern, unity is a nightmare, it is a big trap, it is a type of killing by kissing, it is a weapon by which their freedom and rights are destroyed and their hope in a safe and better future is shattered. Under the umbrella of unity they are terrified, tortured and killed with no respect to any humanitarian feelings, just because they express their refusal to the extreme injustice and discrimination in a peaceful manner. This unity for them is a time of suffering, pain, overwhelming subjugate, and oppression with bad unforgettable memories that will remain permanently in their mind for ever. This unity becomes a real threat to their entity, identity and dignity and to the future of their next generations. They have only a great hope that one day the free world will understand their case and support them for regain their freedom and sovereign state.
Another Rwanda is in the making,it's high time the international community -the US,UK Germany and France at the most intervene and prevent chaotic situation prevailing in th region. Needless to mention all the short-comings of the failed unity-it's a waste of time - the northern -Yemen Arab Republic - invaded PDRY southern Yemen in 1994 - UN resolutions are to be implemented forthwith - The partnership between the two states was broken since that war broke. The current regime is perpetuating hatred among people and a catastrophy is looming . The regime is politically bankrupt - the people of southern arabia need to be independent NO LESS THAN THAT. The struggle for independence has started - whatever it takes - the blood of the martyrs goes along way to strenghen the roots of struggle to freedom .

The intentions of the Yemen Arab Republic is to annihilate the south Arabian people - drive them to submission to the dictatorship regime in Sana'a - much to the awareness of the people in the South. It's all manifested in the 20 years of the so-called unity. All sinister and evil intention revealed as impacted the lives of the people in the south - poverty, misery are the norms of life to the southerners - annihilation of the Southern cadres and brains. We appeal the international community to intervene -prevent further deterioration of the lives of Southerners - the right of the people to decide there destiny - towards independent state as UN resolutions stipulate 1994 .There is are no more deals with treacherous regime in Sana'a .FREE SOUTHERN ARABIA..........FREE SOUTHERN ARABIA MATYRS ...DIE THE STRUGGLE GOES ON TO INDEPENDECE.
