Slideshow: First photos released from State Dinner hosted by Barack and Michelle Obama

The Obama administration is hosting its first State Dinner.  The State Dinner means little when it comes to policy but symbolic these events are the closest thing the United States has to a reception with royalty.  The State Dinner are purposefully meant to impress foreign dignitaries by showing off the best of America's food, style, and entertainment among other things.  This State Dinner hosts the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh and his wife.

Every President in recent history has hosted multiple State Dinners.  President Bush had his first on September 5th 2001 right before the September 11th attacks.  This has not kept some conservatives from attacking the event already.  Glenn Beck argued that the party is excessive today saying no such events should be held in the current economic climate.

Regardless of one's political viewpoint State Dinner's are always good for some entertainment.  Particularly the photos from the event which can be seen below.

How could Bush be criticized for having a State Dinner 'before the 9/11 attack?'

I can see why this administration could be criticized for it's extravagance in 'every way' at a time when so many are suffering.

Word has it they were actually going to have a conference in Hawaii about the 'waste' in the 'stimulus package' until an insider tattled and they had to cancel!
