For the second stop on their "Great Land, Sea, and Air Tour," co-authors Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett (Boilerplate) brought their new book Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention to Bridge City Comics.
The Portland couple were joined by the fine pirates of PDX YAR as well as fans attending in sea- and steampunk-themed costume to celebrate the chronicles of one of America's greatest family of inventors. The book, from Abrams Image, details the activities both known and secret of Frank Reade Sr. and his progeny as they travel across the world in their amazing vehicles.
For the "Sea" event, Guinan displayed the model he created of the Reades' aquatic vessel Centennial, which was built partially from scratch and partially from a Civil War-era ironclad model kit.
The normal book-signing festivities were interrupted, however, as the pirates laid claim to deep-sea treasures that Frank Reade Jr. (played by Guinan) had found. A struggle ensued, and the outcome may be seen in the slideshow.
The last stop on the "Great Land, Sea, and Air Tour" will be at Things From Another World in Hollywood, Wednesday February 22nd. The first ten guests to have their passport stamped at all three events will win a print of an original Frank Reade engraving signed by both authors, and custom-stamped Frank Reade chocolate 'gold coins.'"
