Texas A&M University's oldest institution on their College Station campus, the Corps of Cadets, sent their Parson's Mounted Cavalry to San Antonio for the kick-off of the Stock Show and Rodeo.
Proud and regimented, the A&M Parson's Mounted Cavalry preserved the tradition of the of the old West and early 1900's during the Western Heritage Parade through downtown San Antonio.
Formed in the spring of 1973 to preserve the traditions of the Texas A&M Cavalry of the 1920s and 1930s, this special unit honorably represents the university at parades, agricultural and equestrian events throughout Texas.

The unit, named after Colonel Thomas R. Parsons, a former Commandant of Cadets, marched down the historic Houston Street from the site of the Battle of Bexar at Milam Park to the Battle of the Alamo.
The parade highlights also featured a herd of about two dozen longhorn cattle, various marching bands, clowns, and western attired horse riders.
