Happy Martin Luther King Jr., Day everyone! Hopefully, our loyal readers have the day off of work and are showing their support for Dr. King and allowing freedom of speech, leadership and peace for all to be prevalent, especially today.
Another legend worthy of mention, is Slick Rick, The Ruler. This past weekend at the very famous Brooklyn Bowl, Slick Rick celebrated over 25 years of greatness with a packed house for this very fly show. Back in 1988, Doug E. Fresh, LL Cool J, TLC, Beastie Boys as well as countless other trailblazers, proved to bring fun, rhymes to audiences worldwide. Living was easy, people wanted to have a good time and turned to Slick Rick to forget about their problems and worries.
With "La-Di-Da-Di" (we like to party) and Def Jam transforming a local kid from the Bronx into a household name everywhere; mainly on both the East and West Coasts.
Cult Classic, "Mona Lisa" with catchy lyrics and a loyal base will surely liven-up any party and get people dancing:
Ladies and Gentleman and Lowlifes
It is with outstanding pleasure
That we are here tonight
Slick Rick, The Ruler and MC Ricky D
Doing their smash hit, 'Mona Lisa'
You know, like the picture?
Anyway, I'd like to take this time out
To bow before his divine majesty
Oh your majesty
Can I kiss your hand?
Come your highness, they await you
Well, it was one of those days, not much to do
I was chillin' downtown with my old school crew
I went into the store buy a slice of pizza
And I bumped into a girl, her name was Mona.
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, so men made you
YouknowwhatI'msayin? So I said
"Excuse me, dear, my gosh you look nice
Put away your money, I'll buy you that slice"
She said , "Thanks I'd rather a slice of you
I'm just kidding but that's awfully nice of you."
This song is a classic and also available as a ringtone!
Grammy nominated rapper, Slick Rick has also been called "Hip Hop's greatest storyteller."
Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dog and Miley Cyrus have all sampled Slick Rick turning their songs into hits.
Also, Slick Rick celebrated his Birthday (Born on January 14, 1965) with the audience at Brooklyn Bowl making the evening extra-special!
