Art Boutiki has been a mecca of culture in San Jose, fostering the exposure of countless artists; musical and otherwise, and as you probably know, the company's venue at 577 S. Market Street will close later this month to make was for residential development in the downtown area. The publishing warehouse-turned-music venue served as jumping off point for musical acts throughout the Bay, at times lending it's stage to various artists from around the country.
Though the company will continue at a different location (off The Alameda), details remain regarding the music venue and it's efficacy at the new site. Regardless, the action requires a bit of a celebratory send-off. And celebrate is what Art Boutiki will do, calling on some of the music venue's most formative artists for an entire weekend, both Friday (Mar. 15) and Saturday (Mar. 16) of Rock Shows.
On Friday, Art Boutiki dedicates the entire day of music to an eclectic collection of musician celebrating the array of San Jose's musical bounty. On the bill, self-described Melodic Progressive Post-Primuscore act, 8:19, isn't your typical cover band and San Jose native Brooke D is coming off her best release yet ("As We Pictured"); she'll be crafting songs in her signature tape-looping, a cappella style. Curious Quail and Fossil Trees hit the indie/emotional rock vein, while headliners, Drop Dead Sixty resurrect 90s-style, alt-rock.
Saturday, the acts range throughout the U.S., with music from both coasts closing Art Boutiki's stage for good. Zen Zenith and Rin Tin Tiger hang an alt-folk vibe opening the evening, while avante rockers, Little Red Lung, trip up the coast from L.A. Bent Knee traverses the continent coming all the way from Boston, while the venue's festivities close with an act that is/was penultimate to the "Rock Show" franchise and rock in San Jose, Picture Atlantic.
Friday the event lasts all day, with Saturday's show starting at 7:30. Tickets are available for $10/per day at the Art Boutiki website.
