Monday September 16, 2013 was a night of premieres on Fox; "Bones" season premiere (check out the details here) and "Sleepy Hollow" series premiere. The beginning of the "Sleepy Hollow" episode was rocky but well done when you take into consideration it was about creating a supernatural backstory as to how a man who died 250 years ago had risen from the dead at the same time the horseman he "killed" returned to the Village of Sleepy Hollow in search of his... missing head.
The past meets the present when Lt. Abbie Mills meets the headless horseman, after watching her partner get decapitated during a routine call involving agitated horses. She met Ichabod Crane at the police station after he was interrogated in the murder of the sheriff. While she was transporting Crane to the mental hospital another murder was announced over the radio, the murder of a priest who held a striking resemblance to one he knew in his own time.
As more backstories are revealed we get to meet Ichabod's wife, Katrina, who was a witch and a past that connects Abbie and her sister to the four horsemen. Through the course of their investigation they determine the headless horseman is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse and his number one goal is to find his head (which happens to be buried in Katrina's empty grave). Once he gets his head the other three horsemen will return and the end will come. There are two witnesses (Crane is convinced he and Abbie are the witnesses mentioned in the bible) who are foretold to go to battle against the horsemen over 8 years.
It is a story of supernatural and biblical proportions. Will you be watching this new series? What did you think of the premiere? Feel free to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
