Fans of Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” are in for an exciting Season 2. News of characters and scenes are starting to leak out from various and sundry places. To date, there are two new characters and some snippets about the expansion of the series.
As to new characters, would you believe that Benjamin Franklin is coming to Sleepy Hollow? Ben will be played by veteran actor Timothy Busfield. Show Runner Mark Goffman told Entertainment Weekly, “This man founded the printing press and was responsible for so many [innovations] and now we find out he’s involved in this secret war and that Crane had a relationship with him. I’ve read several biographies of Franklin and we’re teeing off on some of his precociousness and eccentricities.”
Busfield’s performance has garnered high praise. “When we saw him come out in the makeup and the whole getup, it was thrilling to me — he was such a fantastic Franklin,” executive producer Len Wiseman enthused. “It was eerie, he really did impress us. We were running around showing the photo to everybody on set.”
The town of Sleepy Hollow also has a new bounty hunger, one Nick Hawley played by Matt Barr. The character is described as “ruggedly handsome.” Will he be giving star Tom Mison a run in the eye candy department? We’ll have to wait and see.
Recently, series star Tom Mison (Ichabod Crane) was asked to describe the Season 2 opener. He responded, “All I can think of are swear words!” Nicole Beharie (Abbie Mills) quickly shot back, “You can’t do that, your mom would be really upset with you.” “She’d be furious,” agreed Mison.
Mison did offer some non-swear words of encouragement for fans, though. “The great thing is, the second season starts exactly at the moment the finale left off, so all of the pace that’s been building up through the last 13 episodes, it’s just straight in. We’re hitting the ground running, so there’s no time for Ichabod or Abbie to sit back and consider what’s happened.”
What new things will viewers learn? Season 2 will expand the back story with “more family stuff for everyone.” You’ll get more of the story of what really happened to Abbie and Jenny, plus why Abbie is a Witness.
You’ll also see more of now series regular John Noble playing Henry Parrish a.k.a. Jeremy Crane or the second horseman of the apocalypse. Executive producer Roberto Orci noted, “He doesn’t just suddenly take off his mask and (go) running around with claws — he’s actually still part of the town and part of the fabric of what’s going on. He’s integrating into the town, so he’s a delicious, gigantic bomb waiting to go off.”
“Sleepy Hollow” premiers Season 2 on Monday, Sept. 22 on Fox. Season 2 will have 18 episodes. Stay tuned to this column for more information as it becomes available.
