♥Sleepy Hollow Returned w/The Golem....

It was a very long two weeks for Sleepy Heads waiting for the next episode of Sleepy Hollow but the show didn't disappoint! Within the first five minutes our hero was strangled, catapulted into purgatory where his wife Katrina is being held by the demon Moloch. Why would Icabod Crane agree take such a extreme measures to almost die? Let's review a little bit...

In episode 9 titled Sanctuary, while investigating a missing heiress in a dilapitated mansion, our two witnesses stumbled upon a deep secret Katrina kept from her husband...they had a son! Not only did Katrina have their son in the haunted mansion, but Abbie's ancestor delivered him then helped her escape from Moloch's minion sent to kill them both. Though we're not sure why, Abbie saw the whole thing as though it was happening right in front of her, then had to tell Crane who was in disbelief upon the news. Needless to say the demonized scarecrow got what was coming to him after Crane took his grief and anger out on the monster, axe in hand, effectively hacking away at its' roots until it was no more! "Send Moloch my regards" Crane warned as he took one last swing killing the beast.

Next it was the quest to find out what happened and why Katrina never told Crane she was pregnant with his child. But how do you reach someone who is trapped in Purgatory? Enter the Sin Eater. John Noble guest starred as Henry Parrish, summoned by Crane to assist. Though initially reluctant, he agreed but warned Abbie not to stop him once he started. Determined to stay for the duration of the long distance call, she was shocked to see Henry choke Crane to unconsciousness! The plan worked and we learned Katrina had no choice but to give up their son Jeremy to keep him safe so she could continue her calling in the secret fight against demons.Though heartbroken at having to leave her only son, Katrina gave him a doll to watch over him and keep him safe. After abuse by the priest at the orphanage, a single drop of blood fell on Jeremy's doll and thus created 'Golem'- a monster loyal only to the boy who's bloody rampage was finally stopped by Katrina's coven of witches.

Fast-forward to present day- after Crane's near-death experience which catapulted him between worlds to chat with Katrina, he sets out to find out what became of his son. A stop at the local library turns deadly when the librarian who recognizes Crane, is killed by the Golem who attached himself to Crane upon his other-worldly return. Interestingly, the Librarian was part of Katrina's coven, which leads Crane, Abbie & Henry to four witches. These witches warned Crane it was foretold their deaths would be sealed upon his arrival.

Although in the end Crane realizes he must put the beast down, it was the most touching moment of the episode as he cradled the monster that lay dying, the last link to his only son. Tom Mison's performance was so moving, that one could feel Crane's anguish as he finally let go, closing the chapter.

Sleepy Hollow's version of Golem did it's job, completely taking the audience through a different journey than expected. Since the beginning of the season Crane has been in a world he doesn't recognize and for a brief moment, he had his family back. Both Sanctuary and Golem were definitely personal, filled with emotion and clearly has given us a glimpse into Crane's past, what he believes in, as well as his love for Katrina. Question is, why did the demon Moloch want to kill his wife and son? Is Jeremy really Crane's son or is it possible Katrina was pregnant with Abraham's child and couldn't bear the thought so promptly dumped him for Crane? Only time will tell and with the 2-hour Season One Finale set to air January 20, hopefully we'll learn the answers to these questions.
