As Delaware County prosecutor, Jeff Arnold, pushes to prosecute parents for sleeping with their babies, Parkview Health in Fort Wayne is teaching parents about safe sleeping and sending them home with a pack and play crib. Parkview offers baby care classes regularly and they plan to offer a community-wide class free to residents.
Jeff Arnold, says Delaware county has seen a rise in deaths of children co-sleeping with their parents and he wants to prosecute. In just over a year 9 infant deaths have occurred in instances where parents were sleeping with their babies. According to INCNOW, Jeffrey Arnold said he will not overlook co-sleeping as an issue of stupidity. “I'm going to try to prosecute those cases,” he said.
Health officials agree. Heather Henry, a registered nurse with Parkview Health says that babies need to have their own safe place to sleep and that sleeping with babies is dangerous.
From now own, Arnold promises to prosecute parents of babies who die when sleeping with their parents in Delaware County in instances where the use of alcohol or drugs are a factor.
What do you think? Should parents who kill their infants when sleeping with them be prosecuted? Or is the death of a child enough?
