Xbox Live Gold subscribers are in for a special treat at the start of the new year as Sleeping Dogs will become available as a free download to Gold members beginning Jan 1. Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced on Monday that open-world crime game set inside Hong Kong will be offered as the free game download as part of the Games with Gold program.

In addition to Sleeping Dogs, Xbox Live Gold Members will also receive Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for free during the second half of January. Sleeping Dogs will be available as free download from Jan 1 through Jan 15. Then, on Jan 16, gamers with an active Xbox Live subscription will be able to pick up Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for the remainder of the month.

The Games with Gold program is Microsoft’s answer to Playstation Plus which provides free game downloads to various Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and PS Vita titles each month. Xbox Live’s Games with Gold service was originally announced as a temporary offered that would offer Gold members two free games a month during the last few months of 2013, but Microsoft has since confirmed that the program will continue indefinitely.
