Wedding registries make shopping for the to-be weds so simple it can feel simply thoughtless. For a memorable gift, think about what happens after the honeymoon, when the celestial glow has dimmed, and after the bride and groom are back to being Ms. Commuter and Mr. Workaholic. Maybe they will be thinking, “We need another honeymoon – just a night or two of romance away from our jobs and every weekend’s daunting lists.”

A gift certificate at Lynfred Winery B&B in Roselle is a unique and thoughtful gift from people who remember married life after the honeymoon – or can imagine the hard work required to create a household and make a marriage succeed. A weekend getaway rekindles the spark without the heavy luggage, TSA lines and intrusions, ground stops, and scarce plugs for electronic devices.

Lynfred Winery is in a 1912 historic home secluded by greenery. Guests can choose among four luxurious suites, each decorated in a different theme: French, Italian, German, and American. Complimentary wines will be waiting by the fireplace, and guests can order evening refreshments with foods inspired by each country. French selections include Florentine Mushrooms and Brie with apricot preserves in a puff pastry. The Oktoberfest Platter with cheeses, sausages, apples and pickles may have more appeal for guests who selected the German room.

For breakfast, the guest house offers themed breakfasts such as Cannoli Stuffed French Toast topped with powdered sugar and pistachios that will delight couples who honeymooned in Italy. Other guests may prefer traditional American fare such as steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, or basically whatever they want. Breakfasts are delivered to the suite or balcony at a time guests specify.

B&B guests receive a complimentary tour of the winery, which is the oldest and largest winery in Illinois with an annual production capacity of 100,000 gallons of wine. Their wines have won many awards including a Double Gold Award for their 2011 Seyval Blanc at the Illinois State Fair. If there is an oenophile on your gift list, he or she will be as thrilled with the wines as with the suite and location.
