One of the best activities for kids in the winter is sledding. The Cleveland Metroparks has 13 designated sledding spots throughout the area.
- Barrett Road Sledding Hill: Barrett Road Sledding Hill is located on Valley Parkway, just north of Falls Lane in Berea. With a steeper slope, this sledding hill is exciting for visitors of all ages, especially older children.
- Big Met Golf Course Sledding Area: Located in Rocky River Reservation at 4811 Valley Parkway in Fairview Park.
- Coasting Hill: Coasting Hill is located off State Road in Hinckley Reservation, south of Bellus Road in Hinckley Township.
- Hawthorn Parkway/Solon Road Sledding: This sledding hill is located on Hawthorn Parkway south of Solon Rd. Parking is available at Shadow Lake Picnic Area in Solon.
- Kelley Picnic Area: Kelly Picnic Area is located off Euclid Creek Parkway, off the Green Road entrance of Euclid Creek Reservation in Euclid.
- Little Met Golf Course Sledding Area: Located in the Rocky River Reservation at 18599 Old Lorain Road in Cleveland.
- Mastick Woods Golf Course Sledding: Located at 19900 Puritas Road in Cleveland.
- Memphis Back Shelter Sledding Area: Located at the intersection of Memphis Avenue and Tiedeman Road in Big Creek Reservation, north of I-480 in Brooklyn.
- Old River Farm Picnic Sledding Area: Old River Farm Reserved Picnic Area is located off Chagrin River Road in North Chagrin Reservation, south of Chardon Road/Route 6 in Willoughby Hills.
- Pawpaw Picnic Area Sledding Area: Pawpaw Picnic Area is located off Valley Parkway in Mill Stream Run Reservation, east of W. 130th Street in North Royalton.
- Porter Creek Drive Sledding Area: East of Porter Creek Dr. in Huntington Reservation in Bay Village.
- Sleepy Hollow Golf Course Sledding Area: Located in Brecksville Reservation at 9445 Brecksville Road in Brecksville.
- Sulphur Springs/Miles Road Sledding: This sledding hill is located at the corner of Chagrin River Rd. and Sulphur Springs Dr. in South Chagrin Reservation.
Keep in mind safety while you are sledding. While most people consider sledding a “safe” outdoor activity, accidents can happen. According to the National Safety Council, about 33,000 sledding injuries are treated in hospital emergency rooms each year. Here are some tips to keep you safe:
1. Sled in well lit areas that are free of trees & fences.
2. Wear insulated and water proof boots, gloves and jackets.
3. Make sure the area is clear and all other sledders are out of your way before you go down.
4. Climb the hill away from others sledding down the hill.
