Slayer working on new album

Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo announced this weekend that the thrash legends are working on a new album.

He initially wrote on his Twitter account, also mentioning his side project Philm, “SLAYER is writing a new record and PHILM is about to start mixing their debut record. Looking forward to touring again w new music.” He then followed this up with a post on his Facebook page:

The Philm album is in the mixing stage.. I can't wait for you to hear it! Looking forward to releasing it on Ipecac Recordings and doing selected shows around the world.

Slayer is writing a new record. Jeff is still recovering and doing better.

Guitarist Jeff Hanneman has been suffering from necrotizing fasciitis, which is a flesh eating virus, caused by a spider bite.

Bassist/vocalist Tom Araya has said that the band will not do a new studio album until Hanneman has fully recovered. He told Billboard in May:

There's no way we'd go into a studio without him. As a band we're not going to do something without him. He's an integral part of the band. We require his musical skills, his writing skills. He's an integral part of the band. So we're going to hold off until he's at 100 percent and can join that process and be part of it.

Slayer’s last album, World Painted Blood, was released in 2009.
