This November, New Yorkers can kick off their Thanksgiving weekend of gluttony and frenzied midnight shopping by losing their heads with (half of) Slayer!
The band has just announced a November 27th date at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, and it will mark their first performance in the region since a pair of arena shows with Megadeth in 2010 (my review here) and the Big 4 at Yankee Stadium in 2011 (read about it here). Guitarist Kerry King also jammed at Metal Masters 4 last fall, joining Philip Anselmo and others at the Gramercy Theatre (photos & review here).
It's been a tough year for Slayer, with longtime drummer Dave Lombardo exiting the band over contract disputes and founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman tragically passing away just a short time after. Kerry King and frontman Tom Araya seem determined to keep the band alive and kicking ass, and November's show should be extra brutal given the adversity the group is facing. Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in on guitar for several years now, and drummer Paul Bostaph, a Slayer alumnus himself, has stepped in for Lombardo.
The Theatre at MSG, located in the same building as the world-famous arena, only has a small general admission area surrounded by seats, so fans expecting to mosh (and why go to a Slayer show if you're not going to mosh?) should grab their GA tickets as soon as possible. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am.
