5. Zizek at Powell's Books, Portland, Oregon. September 9, 2008.
Zizek discusses his book "Violence," where the term is often fashioned as a more immediate description for ideology and superficial tolerance (despite the fact that the less obvious tyrannies probably are far more devastating).
With this in mind, he interrogates the superficial and pacifying aspects of contemporary ideological forces including films, trends, and fashionable social movements such as ecology and pro-tolerance, a social movement which he observes is interestingly phrased in opposition to 'anti-intolerance.'
When necessary he leans on many of his staple examples of ideology in action, the repeated ones suggesting that he is only slightly overexposed. And he, like an information DJ, a stand-up comedian, or some sort of philosophical jukebox - judiciously wields his library of the archetypical, and thus effectively interfaces with the public consciousness through examples rendered in popular film, world historical events, and relatable human experiences.
