Nancy Pelosi and the Do Whatever It Takes Solution To Passing Health Care
Reminiscent of the John Kerry I was for it before I was against it gambit, the House Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi, are considering using a legislative trick to pass the health care reform bill without actually having to put an ay vote beside their names.
Being called the Slaughter Solution, it is named after Representative Louise Slaughter who is the Chairwoman of the House committee that would have to approve using it.
In A Nutshell, What Is The Slaughter Solution
Very simply, the Slaughter Solution allows representatives to vote on a rule governing debate for fixes to the health care legislation that was passed in the Senate, while at the same time "deeming" the Senate bill passed.
Using a legislative "trick" to pass an unpopular bill that would account for one sixth of the economy would be a joke, and make a mockery of the foundation that the country was built on.
