You could easily miss it. The SL7B exhibit by the University of Australia in Second Life is distinctly diminutive, towered over by massive and flashier exhibits. It is massive in one way only: the extraordinary creativity that UWA in SL has brought to Second Life. If you have any interest in art, creativity, machinima, or education in Second Life and haven't been to the UWA Second Life sims, you owe it to yourself to visit this exhibit and take the notecards and landmarks available there. You can also pick up a free UWA mug and tee shirt.
The most striking part of the exhibit is the sculpture Lil Eizenstein, the product of a collaboration between Len Zuks and Miso Susanowa, pictured here.
The UWA in SL currently has a staggering pool of L$500,000 for prize money creative competitions it sponsors. Its current and recent activities include
- The Imagine Challenge: The basic requirement in this competition is to "create something that will take our breath away."
- The Flagship Challenge: This competition's challenge is to "design a building that captures the essence of creative engagement, which could possibly be built. The University of Western Australia plans to build such a building in real life."
- The Casey Cultural Prize: This competition "encourages artists and builders in all disciplines to research Western Australian historic OR contemporary Culture and present a piece which demonstrates aspects of Western Australian culture, ecomony or society."
- A machinima competition (you can read about it here and here).
- The recently opened UWA-BOSL Amphitheatre (read about it and see pictures here and here).
- The exhibit of Linden Lab CEO M Linden's "doodles" (read about it and see pictures here).
