Skype is a feature-packed communication tool that has revolutionized how people around the world interact. It has brought millions of people together—even when they are far apart. It’s remarkable that 1.4 trillion minutes of voice and video calls have been made using Skype. That’s the equivalent of 2.6 million years of conversations made in only ten years’ time. It’s only fitting that we celebrate a decade of Skype by taking a look at the people, places and behaviors Skype has influenced in its history.
Skype has really influenced the life of Ed Gallagher, as it enables this visually impaired artists’ friends to guide him through everyday tasks, in addition to biking, hiking and sailing—something he demonstrated to the TODAY Show’s Jenna Wolfe in 2008. Brave, heroic soldiers have been able to use Skype to witness the births of their children. The popular communication tool has transformed global education opportunities. It allows people to work anywhere and complete job interviews from their own homes.
