Skype release for Windows phone 8 release

Today Skype released its Windows Phone 8 preview 2.1. This release comes with added reliability and performance improvements especially in regards to background notifications and calling. Temporarily disabled was the People Hub because of device stability issues. It is suggested that if this is an essential feature for you that you hold off installing this update until a fix is found.

The upgrade is available now through the Windows Phone Store and, according to the Skype Garage blog, more changes include an updated chat keyboard (autocomplete/autocorrect), sync of Windows Live Messenger Buddies and Skype, and optional toast notifications for Windows Live buddies.

In order for Microsoft to recoup some of the $8+ billion they paid for Skype in 2011 the successful integration of Skype with their mobile devices and new Windows 8 operating system is essential. With this being said, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

More specifications are available on the Skype Garage blog page.
