The Colorado Springs Sky Sox beat the Tacoma Rainiers by a score of 5-to-2 marking their first win of the series and getting one step closer to the playoffs. The Sky Sox must be victorious in today’s game, their last game of the season, to win the PCL Pacific North Division and make the playoffs.
The Sox stayed afloat in the playoff race yesterday by doing exactly what they needed to do: out pitch and out hit Tacoma. Sky Sox pitcher Esmil Rogers had a solid outing on the mound going six and a third innings only allowing two runs, and Ryan Speier and Matt Belisle finished the job by not giving up any additional runs. The top four batters in the Sky Sox lineup all had key hits during the game. Matt Murton went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Mike McCoy, Matt Miller, and Daniel Ortmeier all went one-for-four. The defense came to the game too as the Sox successfully completed three double plays and threw out Tacoma’s Jerry Owens as he tried to steal second.
The Sky Sox and Rainiers face off again today for the last time this season. Today’s game is scheduled for 2:30 PM in Tacoma. You can listen to the game on 1460AM or go to skysox.com for the box score which is updated regularly.
With one game to go it’s all about who wants it more…
