Skull Skates' Online Skateboard Museum recounts 80 years of history and evolution

Skull Skates is a well-known company – not only they've been around since the late 70's but the black-and-white cranium logo is certainly one of the most recognized icons in skateboarding culture.

Their website now features an ‘Online Skateboard Museum’, a cool timeline presentation that spans eight decades in the development of the wheeled plank.

Along with dozens of pictures of rare memorabilia – from three-wheelers and scooters from the first half of last century, followed by chopped steel wheel roller-skates nailed to a wood plank, all the way to the introduction of urethane and shaped decks – there is also lots of detailed info (specs, brands, materials, sizes, etc.) that, altogether, essentially chronicles the progress of the skateboard into what it is today.

At the same time, the rest of the monochromatic Skull Skates website is loaded with skateboarding history, photo galleries, artwork, interviews and profiles.

Originally from Canada, they moved to Los Angeles in the 80's; notable skaters like Duane Peters and Christian Hosoi had, at one time, top selling pro models by the company; but after a few years of rough times in SoCal, they returned to Vancouver where, along with PD’s Skate Shop, they remain to this day.

It is definitely worth checking them out because ultimately (and, as they say), to know where you are going, it helps to know where you’re coming from.
