Skittles vs. Pot Roast: Does Denver have enough meat to stop Seattle's sweet RB?

See also

With impressive spreads of food adorning tables all across the country, nothing may have more of an impact to Super Bowl Sunday than Skittles and pot roast.

But which of the two has the advantage? Is it savory or sweet? The quick fix or the hearty meal?

Pot roast, of course, is the nickname of defensive tackle Terrance Knighton of the Denver Broncos. At 335 pounds, Knighton has plenty of meat on his bones. He will be tasked with clogging up the middle; and trying to slow down world-class running back Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks.

Fresh off of his newly-signed endorsement deal with Skittles, Lynch carries the rock for the Seahawks; and often carries Seattle’s offense on his back.

Silent but deadly, Lynch often spurns the media; instead letting his play on the field do the talking.

In two playoff games this season, Lynch has accumulated 249 rushing yards for an average gain of 5.0 yards.

The Broncos rushing defense however, has been stout in the playoffs. They have allowed the least rushing yards per game (64.5) of any playoff team, with Knighton playing a pivotal role in their efforts.

While they have not faced a rusher as dynamic as Lynch; if they can contain him some (say…hold him under 100 yards), then the Broncos’ chances of going back to Denver with the Lombardi Trophy improve exponentially.

“I’m ready for the challenge,” said Knighton. “Our group is ready for the challenge. We have to play gap sound football and make sure we tackle him and knock the pile back because their offensive line does a great job of pushing the pile and finishing guys. We want to be that force on the field.”
