Plaid skirts are sexy.  Headbands are hot. And bows are a turn on. Inspired by Blair Waldorf, it's an era of the oh-so-innocent Catholic school girl.

But if you can't quite get chummy with your tights, you're in luck.  This season's alternative: the ankle sock.

For the skeptics, try wearing a subtle pair - like brown or nude.  If you're feeling adventurous, embrace a bright pink pair with a neutral outfit.

Wear them with flats, heels, or boots and your favorite winter dress or skirt. Check out J.Crew for inspiration: work appropriate, casual, with boots, and barely there.  

The best part about the trend? It's free. We've all got socks, even if we aren't Catholic school girls.

    Ankle socks with skirts and dresses were a trend in the 1940s and again in the 1980s. I love the idea of using them as a pop color with a neutral outfit. Tres chic!
