When it comes to beauty and skin care, many of us love to try new products. It is fun to stand at the cosmetic counter of your favorite department store and allow yourself to be drawn in by that great pitch being delivered by the beauty consultant. Sometimes those products are just what you need and sometimes they are not as great as expected. Even after being temporarily abducted by the skin care counters, remember to always fall back to your basic beauty routine. Keep in mind this very simple formula - Regimen, Exfoliate, Diet, Rest.
Regimen - always maintain a good skin care regimen. Whithout a doubt, this is the most basic but required step in your skin health. In the morning and at night, whatever products you use, cover your basics of cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Exfoliation - exfoliate your skin at least once a week. Cleansing daily is a must, but exfoliation goes a step further and gets rid of those dead skin cells that remain and will allow the skin's healthy glow to shine through. Exfoliating weekly, twice weekly or even more is up to you and your skin. Overdoing it can cause skin irritation, so you want to find the balance that is right for you.
Diet - Include food items in your diet that are rich in nutrients good for your skin. Staying hydrated is also very important for your overall health. This includes drinking plenty of water. Rest - get some beauty sleep! Sleep deprivation is horrible on the body and skin - the effects are immediately noticeable (puffy eyes and dark circles) and will make you pack on an extra layer of makeup. Sleep allows the body to rejuvinate, recover and replenish. Do you have complex skin issues? Consulting with a dermatologist is a must to get going on the right track for your skin health.
Remember, there is no one answer that fits everyone, so you have to get to know your skin. Have fun at the makeup counters and try out those new age-defying and beauty enchancing products, but never neglect the basic care your skin requires. Make your skin your best friend.
