Now that it is March, spring skiing is right around the corner. Here are some quick tips to help you maximize the most of your spring.
- Follow the sun. In the Northern Hemisphere follow the eastern aspects in the morning and then work your way toward the western aspects by the afternoon. This way you will be hitting the snow as it is starting to warm up and soften. This is an important tip if there has not been snow if your area in a way.
- Slice through the snow. When snow heats up, it can get heavy. Like "mash potatoes" heavy! Slice through the snow by allowing your skis to cut through the soften snow versus pushing the snow. Your legs will get tired if you push the snow around all day.
- Wax your skis. Often times spring snow will heat up as the temperature warms up and the moisture content in the snow will take more of your wax off of your skis. Waxing your skis will help keep you moving versus sticking to the slush.
- Re-apply sunscreen. Sunny spring days, especially at higher elevations, can reflect the sun's rays off of the snow. Don't forget to re-apply your sunscreen. Forgetting once can leave your with a red face and a sunburn.
- Drink fluids. The sun can take a lot out of people. Remember to drink plenty of fluids on a warm, sunny spring day. Otherwise, you will be exhausted at the end of the day.
Follow these simple tips and you will enjoy your spring skiing!
