The upcoming forecast for numerous European countries brings good news for skiers and snowboarders: snow, finally. Europe has been experiencing atypical weather for this time of year and the opening day for many of the popular ski resorts has been pushed back, much to the dismay of those looking to hit the slopes.
Hopefully no one is already back from a European ski trip since this year has brought “…the warmest and driest autumn in the Alps for nearly 150 years” (ClickGreen). France and Switzerland are among the countries expected to experience lower temperatures with some heavier snow in the upcoming weeks. Many of the well-known resorts such as St. Anton in Austria have yet to open, but hopes are high that they may be able to do so as early as this weekend.
TripAdvisor has compiled a list of the best skiing vacations in Europe, and the top ten are dominated by three countries: Switzerland, France, and Austria. This comes as no surprise since the Alps are one of the top skiing destinations in the entire world. Germany and the Scandinavian countries of Sweden and Finland are home to some of the other more popular slopes in Europe.
Brandywine was voted the best place for downhill skiing in Cleveland in Scene’s “Best of Cleveland” contest. Along with neighboring Boston Mills, it has yet to open its slopes for the year, but their website says it will open very soon.
