Ski season coming to an end: Ski now

It's that sad time of year for skiers and boarders. Ski season is coming to an end. Sad, but true.

While the season got off to a great start, what followed was snow in fits and starts, with everyone hoping for more. While there may be a bit of snow falling this weekend, and any snow is good snow, it won't delay the resort closings. Economics rule the slopes just as much as snow does.

Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows have traditionally gone head to head to see who could stay open at least one more day than their neighbor. That's changed a bit with the resorts becoming partners.

According to Amelia Richmond, Squaw Valley PR Director, and Jenny Kendrick, Alpine Meadows PR Director, April will see the resorts curtailing operations.

Squaw Valley will remain open until April 28. Weather and conditions will dictate the actual schedule.

Over the ridge in Alpine Meadows, operations will continue on a daily basis until April 14. Starting April 15, Alpine will open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, conditions permitting, for as long as possible. Best guess from Alpine is that they might be able to go past April 28.

Sierra-at-Tahoe will close in mid-April as well, according to Steven Hemphill, PR Director at Sierra. It's been a very nice season, and they have some great deals on season passes, and Hemphill encourages everyone to continue to ski and ride.

Between now and shut down time, all of the resorts in Tahoe have scheduled some great spring activities on the slopes.

Alpine will host its annual Snow Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 13. Skiing, boarding, golf clubs, colorful tennis balls instead of those pesky small white golf balls, great prizes and a wonderful time in the mountains should peak your competitive interests.

Check out your favorite resort to find the best deals and the most fun on the slopes while you still have time.
